Whats all this fuss about the Red Chair?

Back in April, we posted a story on the Distinctive Inns of New England blog about the Red Chair’s Journey to Chatham and the Captain’s House Inn.  Throughout the spring, the Red Chair made its debut to Cape Cod inns and B&Bs, traveling from one end of the Cape to Martha’s Vineyard and back.  Taking on a personality of its own, the Red Chair’s journey clearly offered innkeepers a backdrop to highlight the beauty of their surroundings and armchair travelers the opportunity to take a trip to the Cape through the eyes of a very lucky red, high backed traveler.

The chair had so much fun exploring the nooks and crannies of Cape Cod, it was chomping at the bit to venture further into New England. At the same time, innkeepers throughout New England following the adventures of the Red Chair requested their own photo sessions with the Red Chair.  The next thing we knew, a New England journey was being planned for the Red Chair, and each of the Distinctive Inns of New England are on the list to host the chair!

The Red Chair had humble beginnings at a consignment shop first then as an addition to the Woods Hole Inn porch. One day innkeeper Beth Colt shot a few photos of the Red Chair and its celebrity status was launched. Photos of the Red Chair were compelling enough to capture attention from artists coast to coast and one such artist came all the way from California and shot a dramatic photo of the chair on a Cape Cod beach, which has turned into a best seller. Beth decided if the Red Chair was intriguing enough for her inn it would be even more fun to send it on a journey across Cape Cod. The Captain’s House Inn enthusiastically signed on to host the chair and took it on a journey throughout Chatham, chronicled in these photos.

First Cape Cod and now New England! The Red Chair is currently being photographed at the Cliff House in Newport, and from there will travel to each of the Distinctive Inns of New England members.  We will highlight the Red Chair travels on the DINE Facebook page and on this blog, so be sure to “like” the DINE page on Facebook if you have not already.  The Red Chair also has its own Facebook page too.

Each of the DINE innkeepers will create descriptions of the Red Chair’s visit via photos and blog entries, which will be shared in this blog and also on www.RedChairTravels.com.  Follow the Red Chair’s journey via the Internet, or better yet, take your own New England journey and visit DINE inns this summer and fall.  You might even get the chance to meet the Red Chair along the way!
