Today we’ll continue our series dedicated to combining the perfect honeymoon with Distinctive Inns in Massachusetts. For those who don’t have time for a full honeymoon, a Massachusetts mini-moon is the perfect answer. You’ll find four of the 12 Distinctive Inns of New England (DINE) in Massachusetts, giving plenty of choices from Cape Cod honeymoons to Berkshires mini-moons, each with its own distinct offerings.
Our honeymoon series started by exploring the options in New Hampshire at the Chesterfield Inn and Manor on Golden Pond. The next entry in our series about customized New England honeymoons and mini-moons took us to Vermont and the Grafton Inn and Rabbit Hill Inn. Recently, we explored waterfront honeymoons and mini-moons on the Connecticut Shore in Mystic Country at Inn at Harbor Hill Marina. Today, we’ll look at all the options offered for romantic Massachusetts honeymoons and mini-moons from North of Boston to Cape Cod and the Berkshire Mountains.
Our story will go from South to North, starting with the perfect honeymoon or mini-moon at the Captain’s House Inn in Chatham, MA on Cape Cod. Located in the heart of Cape Cod’s scenic beauty and beach scene, Captain’s House Inn offers everything you’ll need for the ideal romantic vacation. There are plenty of room choices, many offering deep whirlpool tubs and private fireplaces. Start your day here with a lavish breakfast buffet, plus individually served entrees. Next, it’s off to the Chatham Fish Pier to watch the comings and goings of fishermen, then on to a day at the beach. If you’d rather avoid sand and need a day to relax after a busy wedding, spend the day at the inn by the pool in the summer months or simply grab a book and head to the gardens for a day of relaxing. Be sure to return to the inn for a beautifully served afternoon tea or upgrade to a high tea, both with all the fixings. The library here is filled with hundreds of DVDs, so if the weather outside is frightful, stay inside snuggling by your private fireplace and watch a good movie from the inn’s collection. Chatham, MA is filled with wonderful shops to explore and restaurants to enjoy. There’s so much to explore within 30 minutes of the inn, each day of your Cape Cod honeymoon or mini-moon can be as busy or as relaxing as you like.
Perhaps your Massachusetts wedding will be held in the Berkshires, and you seek the perfect romantic inn nearby for a quick mini-moon or a longer honeymoon. You have two choices in the Berkshires for the ideal romantic getaway. In Lenox, MA, located in the heart of the Berkshires, the Gateways Inn and Restaurant offers 11 guest rooms plus a Piano Bar Lounge and restaurant. Come during the height of the summer and get in on the varied entertainment schedule offered at Tanglewood, summer home to the Boston Symphony Orchestra (better plan in advance to get tickets, though). Another option for live entertainment is Shakespeare & Co presenting a vibrant summer performance season. You’ll start with dinner at the inn, then take in a show, then return for late night bites in the Gateways lounge. For single malt whisky lovers, you’ll find one of the best collections in Massachusetts at the bar here. On weekends during the summer and fall, you’ll find live musical entertainment in the lounge too. Explore the lovely shops hand in hand in Lenox, or take in the gorgeous colors of fall, if you’re there during foliage season. Outdoor recreation reigns here with plenty of options for hiking, biking and guided nature walks. And if the arts are more to your liking, visit MASS MoCA in North Adams or for your dose of history, a stop at the Norman Rockwell Museum in nearby Stockbridge is a nostalgic way to enjoy a day. There are several renowned spas nearby too for a day of pampering and relaxation too.
Just 45 minutes away, on the outskirts of the Berkshires is the Deerfield Inn, located within a living museum in Historic Deerfield, MA. One of the original inns on the stagecoach route through New England, history is preserved here while all the modern amenities are blended for the ideal romantic honeymoon or mini-moon. Spacious guest rooms offer up TVs with DVDs and a nice selection of movies available at the front desk. You’ll enjoy meandering through the historic colonial homes and exhibit buildings of Historic Deerfield, then return for a drink and dinner at Champney’s Restaurant & Tavern located at the inn. You’ll find a nice collection of locally crafted beers on tap here too. With a focus on locally sourced and sustainable foods, Champney’s is the ideal way to end each day. In the warmer months, you might opt for a day of white water rafting or ziplining at Zoar Outdoor, about 35 minutes away, or stroll over the Bridge of Flowers – a beautiful sight in nearby Shelburne Falls, MA. Borrow some of the inn’s bikes for guests and ride throughout the scenic countryside here too. It’s especially scenic in the warmer months. If you’re a shopper, the flagship Yankee Candle Store, offering up just about anything home-or-gift oriented that you can imagine is just 15 minutes up the road. And for a touch of the whimsical, a visit to the Eric Carle Museum (well known children’s author) offers a surprisingly modern and interesting tour. You won’t tire of the food and ambiance at the Deerfield Inn and Champney’s Restaurant and Tavern, so each day can blissfully end there.
Your final option for a Massachusetts mini-moon or honeymoon is found just north of Boston at the Harbor Light Inn in Marblehead, MA. This historic inn fits right into the classic New England architecture of the town, yet guest rooms offer up deep soaking or whirlpool tubs, private fireplaces, flat-screen TVs and all the modern amenities you need for a comfortable and romantic stay. Start your day with a sumptuous breakfast buffet. In the warmer months, you might enjoy breakfast outside by the pool and in the cooler months inside in the dining room. There’s so much to see and do here in Marblehead, from scenic boat rides around the harbor to walks past unique shops and boutiques. You won’t want to miss a visit to Salem, MA to take in the story of the famous witch trials here, and if you visit around Halloween, be ready for some ghostly events. Also in Salem, the Peabody Essex Museum is considered one of the oldest continuously operating museums in the United States, and well known for its collection of Asian art. One day of your special honey-moon or mini-moon might be spent exploring Boston, after all the inn is well under and hour from Boston’s attractions and just 20 minutes or so from Boston Logan airport. Each evening, you’ll want to return to the Harbor Light Inn for a cocktail in the cozy tavern or a glass of wine enjoyed around the outdoor fire pit near the pool. While Marblehead offers a wide selection of wonderful restaurants, there is a limited pub menu offered at the tavern too for those who’d rather stay close to home and spend more time snuggling in their room.
From mountains to sea and town to city, four DINE inns offer up just about any option you can imagine for the ideal Massachusetts honeymoon or mini-moon. Innkeepers are standing by to help you with arrangements for tickets, ideas for itineraries or reservations at restaurants. Your honeymoon should be all about YOU and your innkeepers are there to make your stay as easy and memorable as possible.
