As the calendar turns from 2021 to 2022, the Distinctive Inns of New England (DINE) get ready to open the door to a new year. Perhaps nothing is more evocative of hospitality than a welcoming door to one of ten beautiful distinctive inns. Walk through these doors and a respite filled with hospitality, kindness, comfort and delicious food awaits. On the cusp of New Year’s Eve, travel along on an armchair tour of the doors of DINE. You can start planning the winter romantic getaway to start your new year right.
Camden Maine Stay Inn in Camden, Maine is lit for the holidays with beautiful wreaths and red bows, holiday garland and twinkling white lights. Venture a little further down the Maine Coast to Kennebunk, and you’ll be welcomed by the Inn at English Meadows, in lower Kennebunk Village, within an easy stroll to Kennebunkport’s Dock Square. In summer, fall, winter and spring, these doors open to an inn filled with a contemporary vibe. Guests enjoy breakfast and afternoon treats on the outdoor patio tables.
In New Hampshire, the doors open to a massive lobby area in the Manor On Golden Pond, reminiscent of an English countryside Manor. Inside you’ll find fireplaced rooms with all the amenities. Outside you can explore Squam Lake, made famous by the movie On Golden Pond. In Western New Hampshire, just five miles from the border of Vermont and Brattleboro, the Chesterfield Inn’s doors open to a wonderful dining and lodging experience. From Cape Ann to Cape Cod, Massachusetts is home to three fabulous DINE inns. Starting in Chatham, Cape Cod enter the Captain’s House Inn and you’ll not only enjoy the casual elegance with afternoon tea served year round, but there’s a distinct nautical quality here in the rich woodwork and decor. In Marblehead, one of the most distinctive features of the Harbor Light Inn is its welcoming door. Among the oldest buildings in this harborside town, guests are delighted to find an in-ground pool, cozy tavern and double parlors offering plenty of common area to spread out.
Move toward Western Massachusetts and you’ll find the Deerfield Inn, one of the oldest New England inns in the country, located in beautiful Historic Deerfield. This inn is one of the many restored buildings offering the chance to experience a historic setting with modern amenities. Come for breakfast, lunch or dinner or stay overnight. Either way, once you enter the doors of the Deerfield Inn, you can’t help but start to relax.
From Massachusetts, we move to the Vermont members of DINE and find beautiful doors to romantic getaways featuring fine dining in a casual and comfortable setting. Rabbit Hill Inn is located just about five miles from the New Hampshire border town of Littleton, NH in the tiny borough of Lower Waterford. This traditional New England Inn has received multiple awards for hospitality and was recently named among the top 30 hotels in the World by Travel + Leisure. Enter the doors here and you’ll understand why guests come back again and again for the warm welcome and hospitality.
Grafton, Vermont is arguably one of the most quintessential Vermont towns and home to The Grafton Inn. It’s hard to choose which door to enter – the door to Phelps Barn for casual dining and live music on weekends, or the side or front door to the Grafton Inn, another one of New England’s original stagecoach inns. Every door leads to a fabulous dine and stay experience, unmatched in Southern or Central Vermont.
Travel to the southern-most DINE member and you’ll come to Niantic, CT, home to the Inn at Harbor Hill Marina. While many guests like to linger on the porch overlooking the comings and goings from the marina, once inside the inn they find a refreshingly contemporary decor with plenty of common areas.
Our best wishes for a healthy and adventure filled 2022 from all of us at Distinctive Inns of New England. We hope your year will include plenty of trips to DINE country. When you come, don’t forget to book directly with the inn.
