Your guide to saving on DINE spring getaways

Rainbow Falls in NHSpring has sprung and the Distinctive Inns of New England (DINE) are ready to greet you with romantic getaways and culinary adventures. New England inn travel tends to be a little quieter in the spring months, which means it’s the perfect time to plan your next escape.  Picture exploring and photographing rushing waterfalls around Rabbit Hill Inn and Grafton Inn, quiet harborside walks near the Harbor Light Inn, or hand-in-hand walks on the deserted Cape Cod beaches near Captain’s House Inn or Kennebunkport’s beaches near Inn at English Meadows. How about hikes in the mountains or meadows near Manor on Golden Pond and Chesterfield Inn with spring popping out all over in fifty shades of green.  For the truly intrepid, there are some exhilarating early season rafting trips near Deerfield Inn, and watching the boats begin to come and go from Niantic Harbor is adventure for many at Inn at Harbor Hill Marina. Whatever you consider adventure, you’ll find everything from quiet and relaxing getaways to invigorating adventure during your spring getaway to the nine DINE inns.

With the cost of just about everything on the rise, we know that travelers are looking for the most affordable way to enjoy a New England inn getaway.  The innkeepers in DINE country are here to offer some suggestions for spring getaway savings.  Read on for three great ideas plus a few extra savings tips from individual inns.

DINE is a one tank getaway

Couple taking a road trip to a DINE innMost of the Distinctive Inns of New England are within a one-tank drive from just about anywhere in New England.  As we revealed in a recent blogpost about saving on gas, fill  your tank on Monday which is usually when gas is at its cheapest rate of the week. Your drive to your favorite DINE inn shouldn’t involve another fill up until the next Monday when you re-fill your tank once again at the lowest rate of the week.

One good getaway deserves another

After your next DINE spring getaway you’ll be craving more.  DINE member inns agree that one is not enough. To ensure that your craving for inn travel is fulfilled, upon check out, your DINE innkeeper will offer you a $50 Reward Certificate that can be used on your next 2-night DINE getaway to any other inn (not valid at the inn where you obtained it).  Start planning where to use your $50 DINE Reward Certificate as soon as you leave your first DINE escape and you’ll always have something to look forward to!

Book directly with the inn

Many people don’t realize when they search for the name of an inn or any lodging property on Google and see that blue “Book A Room” box, that they’re not connecting directly with the inn they searched.  Instead, they’re being directed to an Online Travel Agency (OTA) that will make a reservation for you.  These are called third party bookings.  When you book on a third party site, like Booking.com, Expedia or Hotwire, that OTA “owns” your reservation.  That means if anything changes and you need to change the dates of your stay or other aspects of the reservation, the innkeeper can’t help you. The innkeeper also can’t upgrade your room or cancel or reschedule your reservation.  All changes must be made through the OTA.  However, when you book directly with the inn, the innkeeper has the opportunity to upgrade your room or change your reservation if necessary.  This is an important way to save on cancellation fees if a change must take place. Read more about how this works on this blog post.
